AI-assisted programming uses models for analysis, code proposals and checks within a controlled development process. Its useful outcome is a function that meets requirements and can be maintained. A convincing answer or plausible fragment does not replace investigation of the source, testing and review of the actual change. The proposal must be assessed in the application's real context.

For a business, the distinction becomes visible at handover: which problem was resolved, what changed, how was it checked and what remains outside the intervention? An assistant can support the stages, but acceptance criteria belong to the project. Selecting a product or model does not independently determine the quality of the complete application delivered to users.

This guide follows a fictional example: a report filter omits records from the selected final day. Data and diagrams are demonstrative. We check the time calculations locally, not repair an actual application or report client results. Authentic photographs illustrate computer work and organised technical documentation rather than a particular assistant or WebHat project. The distinction between explanation and implemented outcome remains explicit.

Where does AI fit into the development process?

Separate explanation, proposal, verification and executed operation

A model can explain a component, propose a change or help formulate tests. A coding application may provide file and command tools. Configure those capabilities separately from the commercial requirement. A request for analysis does not automatically authorise editing, and preparing code is not equivalent to publishing it. The process should make those boundaries understandable to the person responsible for the project.

The model's proposal is one stage, not the whole process

  1. Requirement

What the function must do and what stays unchanged.

  2. Analysis

Where the cause originates and which information is needed.

  3. Difference

A bounded change explained against the requirement.

  4. Verification

    Tests, access, behaviour and review.

  5. Delivery

The version and operation approved for the selected environment.

Original design workflow, not a client outcome. This article's example modifies no real application and runs no coding agent.

For the fictional report, the objective is correctly including selected days while preserving permissions and the behaviour of other filters. The same intervention does not change authentication, general design or infrastructure. A bounded requirement connects each change to a checkable outcome and reduces the explanation needed at review. Scope should remain clear even when an assistant identifies further possible improvements.

Within types of artificial intelligence, using a model during programming differs from integrating a model into the final product. An application may be developed with AI assistance without subsequently containing AI features. Performance, accessibility and security requirements still belong to the delivered application, regardless of how the code was drafted. The development method does not replace those acceptance conditions.

How do we turn a request into an acceptance criterion?

Define observable behaviour before the technical solution

“The date filter does not work” does not yet specify the problem. In the fictional scenario, a user selects a day in Europe/Bucharest and expects every permitted record from that civil day. The specification names the zone, filtered timestamp field and handling of boundaries, invalid inputs and missing values. These choices determine what the implementation and its tests must actually observe.

The proposed criterion includes the day's start and excludes the next day's start. The interface may display an inclusive end date while implementation translates it into an exclusive upper boundary. This avoids inventing a “last fraction of a second” dependent on storage and comparison precision. The user-facing meaning and technical interval remain consistent without relying on a guessed final timestamp.

Also record what must remain intact: project restrictions, other parameters and total semantics. Check both list and export if both are in scope. Do not accept a visually corrected list while export still uses another interval or includes unauthorised data. A complete intervention follows the requirement through each relevant consumer rather than stopping at the first screen that appears to work.

What does a precise day-boundary example look like?

Four demonstrative records make the rule visible

Select 2026-11-02 in Europe/Bucharest, with declared UTC storage for the example. The local interval runs from 2026-11-02 00:00:00 inclusive to 2026-11-03 00:00:00 exclusive. The checked conversion for these instants yields UTC boundaries 2026-11-01 22:00:00 and 2026-11-02 22:00:00. Do not apply that fixed offset to every calendar date or infer a universal conversion rule from this particular example.

Four test vectors for the same local day

  1. A · Excluded

    2026-11-01 21:59:59 UTC

    Before the selected start.

  2. B · Included

    2026-11-01 22:00:00 UTC

    Exactly at the selected start.

  3. C · Included

    2026-11-02 21:59:59 UTC

    Inside the selected day.

  4. D · Excluded

    2026-11-02 22:00:00 UTC

    At the next day's start.

Invented data explaining the rule, not application results. Cards are test cases, not a proportional time axis. Record permissions are checked separately.

Records B and C belong to the time interval; A and D do not. These calculations were checked using explicit dates and time zones. They do not establish that a real report implements that rule or enforces access correctly. Application testing must observe implementation behaviour rather than merely reproduce the conclusion of an explanation. The mathematical example and the product test have different scopes.

A time zone is not merely a label attached to text. Converting an instant preserves the instant while changing its representation; interpreting a time without a zone is another operation. For other dates, including clock transitions, use applicable rules and dedicated tests. Do not assume every civil day has the same duration or replace zone-aware boundaries with a universal fixed-hour calculation.

Which context should we provide to the assistant?

Relevant information is more useful than unlimited access

For the fictional filter, prepare the field definition, storage semantics, requirement and request path. Include relevant validation, query and display code. Do not automatically supply the entire production database or passwords merely to explain the issue. Begin with demonstrative data capable of reproducing the exact behaviour that needs checking. The input should be sufficient for analysis without expanding access beyond the task.

The guide to AI application context and memory explains why a long history is not equivalent to safe access to the whole project. For each intervention, check current files and relevant rules. A proposal prepared against an older version is not blindly applied over existing changes. The assistant's remembered account must be compared with the present source and confirmed project decisions.

Inventory other people's work too. An apparently small difference can overwrite recent validation or move code with another responsibility. Project context includes those decisions and boundaries, not just the request text. If necessary information is missing, request it or explicitly limit the assessment before editing. This keeps uncertainty attached to the investigation rather than allowing an assumption to become a hidden implementation requirement.

How do we identify the cause before proposing a correction?

Follow the same value through the complete path

In the proposed example, inspect what the interface submits, how the date is validated and which bounds reach the query. The cause could be an upper boundary at the final day's start, incorrect conversion or another rule. Do not declare it from symptoms alone. Observe the point where behaviour departs from the accepted criterion, then explain how that observation supports the chosen intervention.

If the query excludes records before results reach the browser, a display change does not repair the source. If storage and query are correct, investigate formatting and interface time zone next. Select the intervention point using evidence, avoiding parallel corrections that assign different meanings to the same date in different components. The objective is one coherent rule at the appropriate source, not several compensating interpretations.

Separate hypotheses from observations in the work note. “The conversion may be involved” is an investigation direction, not a diagnostic result. After checking, record the identified rule and its connection to the example. A reviewer can then follow the correction's reasoning without accepting the assistant's summary on trust. The note should reveal what was actually observed and what remains outside the evidence.

What does a minimal but complete change look like?

Correct the shared source while preserving responsibilities

For the demonstrative convention, the time condition is “the instant is at least the start and less than the final boundary”. Values are parameters in the database mechanism, not SQL fragments concatenated from input. Actual implementation depends on project types and API; the article's explanation is not a complete query ready to copy. Permission and data semantics must remain part of the implementation.

If list and export share the requirement, identify the appropriate common rule in the architecture. Do not duplicate boundary calculation in two places merely to obtain the same visual result quickly. Preserve access filters and validation, then check consuming components. A minimal correction is bounded, not incomplete with respect to the requirement's effects. Completeness concerns the agreed function rather than the number of edited lines.

The analysis of permissions and portability in an AI coding workflow explains why differences should be reviewable independently of the tool. State affected files, reasons and boundaries. A filtering patch should not contain unrelated design rewrites, dependencies or external operations. Historical tool behaviour is context for process control, not a reason to broaden the current change beyond its accepted purpose.

Which tests actually verify the correction?

Each criterion receives a check capable of observing it

A regression test should capture the initial problem and expected behaviour. The proposed process retains a case that would fail before correction and checks it after intervention. This article does not claim to have run that test in an application. It demonstrates the temporal vectors and describes checks to be built for the selected implementation. Proposed test coverage is not reported as an executed result.

Test cases check different questions

  1. Time boundaries

    Start included, next-day boundary excluded.

  2. Invalid input

Impossible date or reversed interval handled explicitly.

  3. Permissions

Records belonging to another project remain inaccessible.

  4. Integration

List, total and export use the same approved rule.

Proposed test plan. Mathematical checking of the time vectors does not establish that a real application passes these tests.

Add cases for invalid input, reversed intervals, boundaries and permissions. Check totals and export where in scope. Integration tests observe relationships between validation, queries and results; visual review observes labels and mobile usability. A single function test does not automatically cover all these responsibilities. The test plan should identify which criterion each check addresses and which important behaviours require another form of verification.

NIST SSDF distinguishes source-code review or analysis from executable-code testing and calls for recording discovered issues. Use that distinction as a process foundation, not a certification claim. Retain commands or procedures, environment and relevant outcomes, including failures. A check that was not executed is not reported as passed in handover. Evidence should support the stated scope rather than imply a complete assessment from one successful test.

Which access checks remain necessary?

Correct time filtering does not authorise reading records

A record can belong to the interval and still be unauthorised for the user. OWASP distinguishes identity from authorisation and recommends checking permissions on every request. For the proposed example, include a record from another project in the same period and require it to remain inaccessible in list, totals and export. Temporal inclusion and permission should be evaluated as separate conditions.

Query parameterisation separates values from SQL structure but does not decide the user's entitlement to returned information. Date-format validation is another control. Do not substitute these checks for one another or move access filtering into the browser only. The API enforces the rule for the requested operation and object. A structurally valid request may still seek data that the caller has no right to read.

The guide to data protection when integrating AI complements development-environment assessment. Reproduction data should be permitted and minimised. A test log does not need secrets or complete production copies to demonstrate a date rule that fictional cases can explain. Keep diagnostic evidence useful without expanding its contents beyond the information required for the check.

What makes review useful before acceptance?

The reviewer compares requirements, differences and evidence

Review asks whether the solution addresses the observed cause and preserves existing rules. Compare the baseline with the proposed state while identifying changes already present. A diff can compare different reference points; know exactly which versions are being compared before interpreting the changes or declaring the intervention complete. The relevant comparison must include the work actually proposed for acceptance.

What useful review evidence contains

  1. Initial case

Input, observed behaviour and expected criterion.

  2. Proposed difference

Files and changed rule, without hidden modifications.

  3. Executed checks

Command or procedure, environment, result and scope.

  4. Decision

The owner accepts the exact version for the next stage.

Original handover checklist, not an executed project test report. An assistant summary does not replace verification results.

Another assistant may help identify questions, but model agreement does not replace verification. In aligning AI applications with business objectives, the indicator must correspond to the goal. Here the criterion concerns report behaviour and access, not edited-file count or the length of a generated explanation. Review should remain anchored to the accepted function and its observable effects.

If a problem appears outside scope, record it separately and agree on the next step. Do not broaden the intervention without notice. Acceptance identifies the exact version and assessment boundaries, so later changes do not implicitly inherit an earlier approval. Handover should remain understandable to the person maintaining the function later, including what was checked, what changed and why the chosen correction was appropriate.

How do we control performance and complexity?

Filter correctness alone does not establish query behaviour at actual data volume. Measure timing, execution plan and relevant conditions in the chosen environment. Do not invent a performance gain because the patch is short. A transformation applied to every row may have a different cost from calculating boundaries once. The implemented query and workload determine which measurements are needed to support a performance conclusion.

More tools do not automatically clarify a process. Comparing responsibilities around an AI application helps distinguish orchestration, state and evaluation. During development, retain necessary dependencies and explainable commands. Do not add a permanent service or agent to compensate for an ambiguous rule that belongs in the specification. Complexity should address an identified need rather than conceal a missing decision.

At interface level, check that labels explain the interval and filter state remains visible. A technical correction can still be difficult to use if the user cannot understand the selection. Functionality, access, performance and readability have complementary checks; none is automatically established by a positive model response. The delivered experience should reflect the same temporal meaning as the underlying query and tests.

How does verified code become a usable application function?

In software development for business, connect the accepted version to its delivery operation. Prepare the environment, checks and appropriate recovery for code and data. Publication is a separately, explicitly authorised stage rather than a hidden consequence of running tests or requesting an explanation. The person responsible should know which version is moving and which operation affects the selected environment.

Controlled delivery stays tied to the tested version

  1. Preparation

Reviewed difference and a plan for code and data.

  2. Acceptance

Criteria and results reviewed by the owner.

  3. Publication

An explicitly authorised operation in the appropriate environment.

  4. Functional check

Inspect the delivered function and permitted data.

  5. Maintenance

Retain the regression test and reassessment conditions.

Proposed protocol, with no publication or real-data change in the example. Recovery of code, data and external effects has separate scopes.

For custom AI applications, apply the same discipline to model-using components: permitted data, boundaries, tests and observable outcomes. WebHat can design the process and integration around the requirement. Choose the necessary intervention and tools while keeping the source understandable and retaining evidence for what was actually checked. Product architecture and acceptance remain independent of the assistant used during development.

No application was modified or published in this guide's example. The time calculation was checked locally; remaining stages form the proposed protocol. For a concrete project, perform checks in the appropriate environment and record results before handover. Keep demonstration, test and delivered outcome visibly distinct. This allows readers to understand the method without mistaking illustrative cases for measured performance or completed client work.

Frequently asked questions about AI-assisted programming

Can AI-proposed code be used directly?

Assess it against requirements, architecture and current project state. Check differences, dependencies, data and relevant tests before acceptance. A plausible conversational solution does not establish compatibility with the actual application. Publication and external operations have their own conditions, separate from preparing a proposal. The level of verification should follow the effect and risk of the requested change.

Is the model saying that tests pass sufficient?

The report should show which checks ran, in which environment and with which outcome. A recommended test or summary assertion is not a test execution. Identify uncovered criteria and retain failures for diagnosis and the next decision. A useful handover makes the evidence inspectable rather than asking the reader to trust the assistant's confidence or wording.

Why use an exclusive final boundary in the example?

To include the selected civil day without inventing the final fractional second supported by storage. The boundary is the next day's start, converted into the application's temporal semantics. This convention is proposed for the example; the actual implementation should apply the same rule across in-scope components and tests. The interface's inclusive date label and technical upper boundary must remain consistent.

Can the same offset always be used for Bucharest?

No. Use the zone's rules and relevant date. The demonstrative conversion applies to the selected instants, not the entire calendar. Other periods and clock transitions require their own checks. Interpreting a zone-free time and converting a known instant are not interchangeable operations. A fixed offset copied from one worked example should not silently become the application's general time-zone policy.

Does a correct time test also verify permissions?

No. Interval membership and access rights are separate criteria. Check user, project and operation on the server. In the proposed plan, another project's record remains inaccessible even when its timestamp belongs to the interval. Enforce that condition in totals and exports as well as the visible list. A correct temporal predicate cannot replace the application's authorisation rule.

What should be prepared for the first change discussion?

The requirement, a demonstrative example and expected behaviour. Add relevant components and rules to preserve, without secrets or complete production copies. Establish criteria and verification first, then necessary access and intervention. The discussion should produce a clear technical scope before editing or publication, so both the proposed change and the evidence needed for acceptance are understood from the beginning.
