1Password announced the 1Password for Agents platform on October 22, enabling AI agents to sign in to online accounts without passing passwords to the artificial intelligence model. The user approves access to the login, and the password manager fills the website's form. The launch includes integrations at different stages, ranging from gradual rollout to connections announced for a later release.

The new platform serves personal agents that carry out tasks in browsers and applications, including work activities. Examples presented by the company include preparing expense reports from receipts, organising events and planning travel. These operations require access to services the user already uses, without copying passwords into a conversation with the assistant.

The agent's request is separate from the user's approval

According to 1Password, an agent requests a login item when it reaches a website's sign-in form. A unique digital key verifies its identity to 1Password. The user sees which credential is being requested and why, then approves or rejects the request on their own device rather than handing the password to the agent.

After approval, 1Password fills the password or one-time code directly into the form. The agent receives the access needed to continue its task without being given the secret value to read or store. Vault data remain protected by end-to-end encryption, and connecting an agent does not automatically give it access to every saved item.

If several accounts match the same service, the user can choose which login is used. The frequency of approval requests varies by integration. 1Password therefore presents a mechanism for authorising access to a specific account, rather than handing over a collection of passwords that would remain available to the agent for subsequent use.

Eligible personal accounts and regional limits

The platform is included at no additional charge with 1Password Individual and Families subscriptions for accounts using the 1password.com domain. The company specifies that accounts in its European and Canadian regions, identified by the 1password.eu and 1password.ca domains, are not supported at this stage. The condition concerns the region of the 1Password account, separately from the user's language or the country where they work.

The announcement of new personal integrations does not automatically extend eligibility to all organisational subscriptions. For companies managing employee access, the account type and specific integration mechanism remain relevant. The product announced on October 22 is explicitly identified by the supported personal subscriptions and the connections offered for those accounts.

Using agents is optional. People who do not connect an agent continue using the password manager normally. A connection can be disconnected when the user no longer wants that agent to use saved logins. Password management remains centralised in 1Password rather than requiring copies to be maintained in every connected AI platform.

Muse and Grok Bot enter gradual rollout

For Muse, Meta's AI product, and Grok Bot, 1Password describes integrations rolling out in the days following the announcement across supported platforms. This schedule differs from simultaneous activation for every account. In its Muse presentation, the company lists tasks such as monitoring flights, searching for job opportunities and organising events.

The dedicated Muse page also specifies the boundary for sensitive actions: the assistant asks for confirmation before operations such as making a purchase or sending an email. Approval of a login through 1Password concerns the account being used; confirmation of a purchase or message belongs to the agent's workflow. These are decisions about different operations.

For Grok Bot, the integration supports tasks across work tools, email inboxes and websites. 1Password handles approved sign-ins while the agent carries out the requested activity within connected services. The launch materials describe it as an AI teammate for repetitive work, with passwords retained in the dedicated manager rather than shared through the agent's conversation.

OpenAI and Claude Duet connections are announced separately

Connections for Anthropic's Claude Duet and OpenAI's ChatGPT Work and dots are presented as upcoming integrations. 1Password does not put them in the same rollout stage as Muse and Grok Bot. For Town Townie, future connections are announced for the web version and iOS, with the product's own release stage distinguished from the wider platform launch.

The list of partners being worked on includes Browserbase, Browser Use, Dana, Instinct, KERNEL, Perplexity, Ramp, Tomo and Wajo. Naming these companies describes the development of the integration ecosystem. Features, platforms and access dates are set for each connection individually, making the announcement of a partnership and the actual availability of a product distinct stages.

1Password already had a separate Claude integration with its own technical documentation. In that flow, the desktop application verifies the software's identity, the user approves the credentials, and the extension fills the login within a bounded session. The new announcement extends the model to more personal agents; the Claude Duet name and schedule must be distinguished from the previously documented Claude integration.

After signing in to a website, an agent works inside the authenticated session. The information it can view and operations it can perform depend on the account, the website and that agent's rules. The mechanism described by 1Password concerns the storage, approval and filling of secret values; authorising a sign-in does not redefine the account's existing permissions in the destination application.

For automation used in a business, this is the product's central separation: the password manager controls use of the login, while the application and agent control the task performed after signing in. The platform launched by 1Password brings this category of approved access to several AI products, retaining the specific schedule and conditions of each integration.
