Oracle and OpenAI presented an expansion of their collaboration on business applications, software development and cybersecurity on October 27 at the Oracle AI World conference in Las Vegas. The announcement covers four offerings: Oracle AI Workspace, Oracle App Composer, Oracle AI Security Mesh and Oracle AI SMB Bundle, with different access stages for each product.

Oracle AI Workspace is in development and is due to launch. App Composer has limited availability, while the small-business bundle accepts applications from eligible companies in the United States. The two companies describe an integration of AI models with existing operational systems, in which the organization administers access to data and approval of actions.

Oracle applications brought together in a ChatGPT interface

Oracle AI Workspace is designed to connect applications, databases and cloud services in ChatGPT through plugins. The announced architecture includes Oracle Fusion Applications, NetSuite, Oracle AI Database and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, alongside other company tools and data sources. An employee describes the objective, and the system coordinates the authorized information and tools needed to accomplish it.

One example presented by Oracle concerns an order affected by a supplier delay. Addressing it involves checking an alternative product, inventory, customer requirements and transportation, then assessing the financial impact and updating the order. The company describes Workspace as the interface that maintains the objective and coordinates these steps. The example illustrates the proposed operation rather than reporting a specific customer implementation.

Oracle also mentions uses for investigating financial variances or onboarding new employees, involving human resources, IT, facilities and finance departments. In these workflows, Oracle applications validate the rules and make changes in the systems of record. A recommendation informed by data does not automatically trigger an operation: when the process requires a person's approval, the decision remains with the designated owner.

App Composer manages the deployment of internal applications

App Composer covers the stage between building an application with AI and making it available to a team. Employees can create applications with Codex or bring existing ones, including Java applications. Oracle handles deployment and operations in the customer's OCI environment, while IT determines the users, approved data connections, policies and cost controls.

According to Oracle, the service manages releases, monitoring and recovery. Integrated Fortinet security checks help identify vulnerabilities as applications are built and updated. If an application is handed over to the engineering team, its source code, settings and history can move with it, providing the materials needed to continue development.

The company's examples include tracking invoice exceptions, coordinating requests between teams and organizing deliverables for marketing launches. Applications use approved data from systems such as Fusion or NetSuite. Access uses the organization's sign-in, and changes can be previewed before publication. At the time of the announcement, App Composer is in Limited Availability, with registration for access.

Security testing, from discovery to checking the fix

Oracle AI Security Mesh is presented as a managed service using OpenAI cybersecurity models and Oracle testing tools. Its described scope covers applications and infrastructure on OCI, other clouds and organizations' on-premises environments. Customers define the systems where testing is authorized and the boundaries of operations, while Oracle manages the testing infrastructure and safeguards.

The process begins by mapping systems and their connections, followed by a plan submitted for approval. Specialized agents investigate weaknesses and possible routes to data. A separate agent repeats the test to confirm the finding. Oracle uses the example of an ordering application in which a missing access check allows one customer to view another customer's order.

The platform prioritizes confirmed issues and recommends fixes. Coding agents can prepare code changes for the team's approval, after which tests check both that the gap is closed and that the application continues to work normally. Information gathered remains in the company's private knowledge base and is used in subsequent assessments, according to Oracle's description.

A small-business bundle with eligibility in the United States

Oracle AI SMB Bundle combines OpenAI tools, Oracle applications and infrastructure credits. The offering includes $12,000 in OCI credits per year, renewable for two additional years following an eligibility review. The free tiers of NetSuite QuickStart and App Composer are included in the bundle; the former covers operations such as invoicing and cash flow, while the latter allows up to 100 application deployments a month.

The program is aimed at privately held, for-profit U.S. businesses independent of a larger company. Enrollment requires business verification and is allowed only once per startup. Government entities, nonprofits, crypto businesses and service-only consultancies are excluded, along with blocked companies and Oracle customers that have received or consumed more than $250,000 in Oracle Universal Credits.

Each component has its own access rights, usage limits and terms. OCI consumption beyond the awarded credits is billable, and renewal requires an active business building or running its product on OCI. Separately, installing the NetSuite QuickStart plugin in ChatGPT Business and using it within seven days can earn a one-time $50 usage credit for each eligible person, for up to five people and $250 per workspace.

The collaboration also includes a purchasing channel through Oracle Marketplace. According to OpenAI, Oracle customers in the United States can purchase access to the OpenAI API, Codex and ChatGPT Work through their existing procurement processes, using eligible Oracle Universal Credits. This commercial availability is separate from the future launch of Oracle AI Workspace and App Composer's limited availability.
